Oakville Museum’s eagerly-anticipated denim exhibit “From Workwear to Everywhere” launched Tuesday, July 19, 2019 evening at Queen Elizabeth Community and Cultural Centre.

Everyone has a favourite pair of jeans.

Denim has become ubiquitous: widely embraced, worn and loved all over the world. Despite their wide appeal, jeans mean different things to different people. Each piece of denim tells a story about the wearer and the wearer’s life.

The Oakville Museum wanted to know about our community’s denim stories so we asked our residents how they feel about their jeans.

“We were thrilled at the wonderful response.  Our community shared their pieces and amazing denim stories from which we were able to create this fun exhibit,” says Carolyn Cross, Curator of Collections at Oakville Museum.

“We have stories that run from heartwarming to hilarious. Who knew denim could be so all-encompassing!”

The exhibit looks at denim from a number of angles, not just fashion, but also the environmental, social and political aspects of this hardworking fabric.

The exhibition “From Workwear to Everywhere”  runs from Wednesday, July 10th through Sunday, September 1st.  Queen Elizabeth Community and Cultural Centre gallery hours are from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM on weekdays and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on weekends.
